Fairy Meadows and Hunza

Karimabad-Khunjerab- Islamabad

While the Northern Areas is considered home of tourists, Hunza is commonly famous
as the paradise of tourists. The Skyscraping Mountains, spectacular valleys, gushing
torrents, rushing rivers are all awesome. If you happen to visit these areas first time,
you will definitely plan to come again and again. En route you will enter the Northern
Areas via Karakoram High Way and your first destination will be Fairy Meadows in the
lap of Nanga Parbat- the Killer Mountain. The odyssey will be fabulous with so much
of calm and tranquility and you may see the famous mountain from very close
distance. The next destination is Gilgit and then Hunza. This will be a lifetime
experience for you to be in these beautiful mountain areas and you will be able to see
a great variety of nature, culture, music, dance, food and very nice people.

Day 01 Arrival at Islamabad airport and transfer to hotel. Overnight at hotel. (L,D)
Local tour of Islamabad. (King Shah Faisal Mosque, Damane Koh and Old
Raja Bazaar).

Day 02 Drive Islamabad to Chilas (493 kms) (14 to 15 hrs) Overnight at Hotel.

Chilas was on the crossroad of ancient caravan trail over the Babusar Pass
into India and the Indus trail of Besham. A large number of rock engravings
witness the historical importance of Chilas. Chilas lies under the shadow of the
famous Nanga Parbat normally known as the killer mountain.

Day 03 Chilas to Raikot Bridge. (62 kms) (2 hrs) and Raikot to Tatu by local

jeeps. (2 to 3 hrs). Overnight in Huts. (B,L,D)
The local jeeps drop us at Tatu village. From there the trek starts up to Fairy
Meadows. It is steep but easy walk of 3 to 4 hrs to Fairy Meadows.
Fairy Meadow is a meadow on the north side of Nanga Parbat on an elevation
of 3300 m. It is known as the best place to view the majestic beauty of Nanga
Parbat.

Day 04 Day excursion to Beyal Camp. (4 to 5 hrs) Overnight in Huts. (B,L,D)
An easy hike to Beyal Camp through beautiful thick Pine forest with
spectacular views of Raikot Glacier on the left. From these places one can
enjoy very close view of the mighty Nanga Parbat.

Day 05 Trek back to Tatu village. (2 to 3 hrs) Jeep drive to Raikot. (2 to 3 hrs)
Transfer to air conditioned coach and drive to Gilgit. (75 kms) (2 hours)
Overnight at hotel. (B,L,D)
En-route photo stop at Junction point of three highest mountain ranges of the
world i.e. Karakoram, Himalaya, and Hindukush.

Day 06 Gilgit to Karimabad. (101 kms) (2 to 3 hrs) Overnight at hotel. (B,L,D)
In the morning visit of 7 th century Kargah Buddha- a Buddhist survivor is the
large standing Buddha carved on a cliff face in Kargah Nullah in the west of
Gilgit. After visiting Kargah Buddha the journey will start on a recently
reconstructed Karakoram Highway. On the way, we will stop beneath the
breathtaking Rakaposhi peak. The aroma of fresh breezes coming from this
mighty peak will refresh you. The journey then leads us to Karimabad, the
capital of the former state of Hunza. After lunch at Karimabad visit to Baltit Fort
and Karimabad Bazaar. Baltit Fort was the old palace of the Mirs of Hunza. It is
700 years old, built in 13 th century while adding more rooms and towers latter
on. Baltit Fort is built on a cliff edge; behind is a ravine and then the Ultar
glacier glinting in the sunshine. In 1945 the Mir of Hunza moved down to newly
constructed house. In 1990 the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC) started
restoration of Baltit Fort using advanced preservation principles and ended at
1996. Now it is open to all for visit. After Visiting Baltit Fort we have a short
walk through Karimabad Bazaar. Here you see the Hunza famous antiques
and local hand made handicrafts and carpets.

Day 07 Karimabad to Hoper and Back to Karimabad. (3 to 4 hrs) (44 Kms both

way) Overnight at hotel (B,L,D)
Hoper is situated at 2800 m and 22 kms from Karimabad. It is a cluster of
villages around a natural bowl at a bend of Bualtar Glacier. On the way you
have magnificent views of the Golden Peak (7027 m) and Ultar Peak.
After lunch at Karimabad, 30 minutes jeep drives to Duiker (3000 m) (Roof of
the world) for overnight.

Day 08 Duiker to Hosht trek. And same way back to Karimabad. Overnight
