Northern Areas is such a place where you can see nature very closely. If you are
dreaming to watch a variety of natural treasures at one place- Northern Areas of
Pakistan is the best choice. In this journey of 21 days we will take you from
Islamabad via the Karakoram Highway. Our first destination will be the famous
Astore valley which is adjacent to Nanga Parbat. The Astore visit will offer some
great opportunities to explore the beautiful treks and glaciers in the valley. On the
way back, you will visit Gilgit and will be able to see the 7 th century Budha carved
on face of a cliff. The journey to amazing Hunza valley and being on top of Duikar
valley to see the sunrise will be a unique experience for you. A trip to the upper
Hunza (Gojal) will add more vistas to your memory. After spending 21 days with us
on this trip, you would have experienced much more in these beautiful places.

Day 01 Arrival at Islamabad airport and transfer to hotel. Overnight at

hotel. (L,D)
Local tour of Islamabad. (King Shah Faisal Mosque, Damane Koh and
Old Raja Bazaar).

Day 02 Drive Islamabad to Chilas (493 kms) (7 to 8 hrs) Overnight at Hotel.

Chilas was on the ancient caravan trail over the Babusar Pass into India
and on the Indus trail of Besham, and many rock engravings were left
by travelers in this area. Chilas is standing under the shadow of world
famous Nanga Parbat.

Day 03 Drive to Astore. (4 to 5 hrs) and transfer to jeeps to Tarishing. (2

hrs) Overnight at Lodge. (B,L,D)
En-route we see the majestic views of Nanga Parbat. Astor is situated
on 2450 m, with a small steep track bazaar. Tarishing is 2910 m, and it
is a starting point of the trek.

Day 04 Tarishing to Herrligkoffer Base Camp. (3 to 4 hrs) (3450 m)

First ascending to ridge of Tarishing Glacier, cross the glacier and walk
through Lower and upper Rupal valley beautiful fields, used by local as
meadows.

Day 05 Herrligkoffer to Shaigir. (3 to 4 hrs) (3655 m)

Crossing Bazhin Glacier and descending to Latobah and further takes 1
hour walk to reach Shaigir. Shagir means white stone in local language.
Day 06 Shaigir to Mazeno Base Camp and back to Shaigir. (5 to 6 hrs both

way) (4000 m)
The path follows the northern lateral moraine of the Toshain Glacier
with views back to Laila and Rupal peaks on one side and Nanga Parbat
on the other. The camp, in a green meadow at about 4,200 meters,
with a bubbling stream and dried juniper bushes, looks down on
Toshain Glacier, 20 – kilometers- long, two- kilometer -wide snake that
fills the whole head of the valley. After dinner enjoy the camp fire and
local music and dance present by local porters.

Day 07 Shaigir to Tarishing. (5 to 6 hrs). (B,L,D) Overnight at lodge.
Following the same route way back to Latobah and skipping
Herrligkoffer Base Camp, crossing Rupal we reach to Tarishing.
Day 08 Tarishing to Karimabad. (7 to 8 hrs) (211 kms) (2500 m) Overnight

at hotel. (B,L,D)
In the morning jeep drive to Astore, transfer to A.C coach and drive to
Gilgit. Visit of Kargah Buddha survivor is the large standing the 7 th
century Buddha carved on a cliff face in Kargah Nala in the west of
Gilgit. After visiting Kargah Buddha we will start on a newly
reconstructed Karakoram Highway. Passing under the shadow of
Rakaposhi, our two hour journey will lead us to Karimabad, the capital
of the former state of Hunza.

Day 09 Karimabad.

In the morning visit to Baltit Fort and Karimabad Bazaar. Baltit Fort
was the old palace of the Mirs of Hunza. It is 600 years old; 13 th
century made but over the centuries added more rooms and towers.
Baltit Fort is built on a cliff edge; behind it is a ravine and then the
Ultar glacier glinting in the sunshine. In 1945 the Mir of Hunza moved
down to new constructed house. In 1990 the AKCSP (Aga Khan Cultural
Service Pakistan) started restoration of Baltit Fort using advanced
preservation principles and ended at 1996. Now it is open all the year
for visitors. After Visiting Baltit Fort we have a short walk through
Karimabad Bazaar. Here you see the Hunza famous antiques and local
hand made handicrafts and carpets.

Day 10 Day excursion to Ultar Meadows. (6 to 7hrs both way) (3300 m)

A climb to the beautiful Ultar ice fall will give you an appreciation for
how vertical things are here. This is a strenuous day trip. The Ultar
meadow is at the foot of the rumbling ice fall in an awesome and

amphitheatre of peaks. One black pinnacle, the 6000 meter Lady
Finger is so sheer that snow doesn’t stick to it. To its first right is the
Hunza Peak. Secondly Ultar I and II.

Day 11 Day trip to Duiker. (4 to 5 hrs both way) (3000 m) overnight at

hotel (B,L,D)
In the morning visit of Altit Fort and Khun. Duiker is the highest village
of Karimabad situated at 3000 meters. People called it “Roof of the
World”. From here you see about eight peaks above 7000 m high, and
you feel that you are standing on same level.

Day 12 Drive to Hoper (2790 m) (1 hour) and trek to Bericho kor.(3310 m)

(4 to 5 hrs) Overnight in tents. (B,L,D)
Hoper is situated at 2790 m and 22 kms from Karimabad. Its a cluster
of villages around a natural bowl at a bend of Bualtar Glacier. On the
way you have magnificent views of the Golden Peak (7027 m) and Ultar
Peaks. From Hoper descend steeply to the edge of the Bualtar Glacier.
Bualtar Glacier is narrow but constantly moving. It is icy and broken
with no fixed route. After 2 hours we cross Barpu Glacier and reach to
grassy camp side at Bericho Kor.

Day 13 Bericho Kor to Rush lake. (4694 m) (4 to 5 hrs) overnight in tents.

We start ascending steeply for 2 hours and reach to Chidin Harai, rest
point. The Rush Phari or Lake is a turquoise lake on a ridge between
Hispar valley and Barpu Glacier with an incredible panoramic views of
7000ers peaks, Batura and Hopar Muztagh and a view distant K-2 but
not confirmed. After taking lunch we further trek to Rush Peak (5098
m). The peak is relatively easy to climb in the summer months and
ascents have been made by amateur climbers without proper
mountaineering gear. The top of the peak provides stunning views of
Miar Peak (6,824 m), Miar Glacier and Phuparash Peak (6,574 m). At the base
of the peak is one of Pakistan's highest alpine lakes, Rush Lake.
Day 14 Rush Lake to Hamdar. (3980 m) (4 to 5 hrs) Overnight in tents.

The trek will be a descending one throughout, to more than 1200
meters. Then we cross the Miar and Barpu glaciers and reach to the
green grassy camp side Hamdar.

Day 15 Trek Hamdar to Hoper. (3 to 4 hrs) and Jeep drive to Karimabad. (1

hour) Overnight at hotel. (B,L,D).

Day 16 Free day at Karimabad. Overnight at hotel. (B,L,D)

Optional walk of water Channels and Carpet center Haiderabad.

Day 17 Drive to Gulmit. (2408 m) (37 Kms) (1 hour). Overnight at hotel.

Gulmit is headquarter of the Gojal Tehsil, in the upper Hunza region.
Gulmit is a centuries-old historic town with mountains, peaks and
glaciers. It has a population of over 6000, with about 1000 houses.
En route stop on Sacred rocks on Karkoram highway, walk from Gulkin
to Borit Lake crossing Ghulkin glacier.

Day 18 Drive Gulmit to Passu. (15 Kms) (1/2 hour) and back to Karimabad. (

2 hrs) Overnight at hotel. (B,L,D)
In the morning drive to Passu, En route stop at Hussaini Suspension
Bridges, stop at Passu Glacier view point. On way back visit of Gulmit
museum and Gojal Weaving center. After lunch drive back to
Karimabad.

Day 19 Drive to Besham. (9 to 10 hrs) (458 kms) Overnight at hotel. (B,L,D)
The last day to say good bye to Hunza valley. En route photo stop at
Sacred Rocks at Shatial.

Day 20 Drive to Islamabad. (272 kms) (8 to 9 hrs) overnight at hotel.

En-route visit of Taxila Museum, situated 58 kms before Islamabad,
was once the seat of Oriental culture. It was first mentioned as a
satrapy of the Archenemies Empire in 6th century B.C. It was invaded
by Alexander the Great and passed along to other rulers until finally
reaching the hands of Ashoka the Great, who molded the city into a
center of learning. The creative Gandhara period followed shortly
thereafter and Taxila remained the center of learning, philosophy and
art. It came to a disastrous and pathetic end when sacked by the
White Huns. Today, Taxila is an archaeologist's paradise: there is a
well – maintained museum here and eight sites scattered around a very
short radius. Amongst the best preserved are Sirkap, Jaulian (the
University).

Day 21 In the morning transfer to Islamabad airport. End of services.
